Concepts

Radian Measure

VisualInstead of degrees, angles are measured by the arc length they sweep on the unit circle. A full circle is 2π.

Algebraπ rad=180∘\pi \text{ rad} = 180^\circ. 2π rad=360∘2\pi \text{ rad} = 360^\circ.

2π=360∘2\pi = 360^\circ

The Unit Circle

VisualA circle of radius 1. The x-coordinate of a point is cos⁡(θ)\cos(\theta), the y-coordinate is sin⁡(θ)\sin(\theta).

Algebrax2+y2=1x^2 + y^2 = 1. Coordinates: (cos⁡θ,sin⁡θ)(\cos\theta, \sin\theta).

cos⁡2θ+sin⁡2θ=1\cos^2\theta + \sin^2\theta = 1

Periodic Functions

VisualSine and cosine repeat their patterns endlessly. The basic cycle repeats every 2π2\pi.

AlgebraPeriod of sin⁡(x)\sin(x) and cos⁡(x)\cos(x) is 2π2\pi.

f(x+2π)=f(x)f(x + 2\pi) = f(x)
